THE UNIVERSE AND THE SOLAR SYSTEM

In the Universe, there are stars, planets, and satellites, among other things. En el universo hay estrellas, planetas y satélites, entre otras cosas.

A solar system is made up of a star with planets and satellites. Un sistema solar está formado por una estrella con planetas y satélites.

A galaxy is a collection of solar systems. Una galaxia es un conjunto de sistemas solares.

THE SUN

The Sun is a star that is at the centre of our Solar System. El sol es una estrella que está en el centro de nuestro Sistema Solar.

The Sun is hot. El sol está caliente.

The Sun is round. El sol es redondo.

The Sun gives us heat and light. El sol nos da luz y calor.

 PLANETS

There are eight (8) planets in the Solar System:
Hay ocho (8) planetas en el Sistema Solar:

1.- Mercury. Mercurio.
2.- Venus. Venus.
3.- Earth. Tierra.
4.- Mars. Marte. 
5.- Jupiter. Júpiter.
6.- Saturn. Saturno.
7.- Uranus. Urano.
8.- Neptune. Neptuno.

Planets go around the Sun. Los planetas giran alrededor del sol.

Planets are different colours. Los planetas son de colores diferentes.

We live in planet Earth. Vivimos en el planeta Tierra.

THE EARTH

The Earth is our planet. La Tierra es nuestro planeta.

The Earth is sphere shaped. La Tierra tiene forma de esfera.

The Earth moves into 2 different ways: La Tierra se mueve de dos maneras:

- ROTATION: the Earth spins on its axis. ROTACIÓN:  la Tierra gira sobre su eje.

 It causes day and night. When the Earth faces the Sun it´s day and when it     doesn´t face the Sun it´s night.  Causa el día y la noche. Cuando la Tierra mira al  Sol es de día y cuando no mira al Sol es de noche.

  It takes 24 hours (1 day).Tarda 24 horas (1 día).

   

- REVOLUTION: the Earth orbits around the Sun. TRASLACIÓN:la gira alrededor del Sol.

  It causes the 4 seasons: autumn, winter, spring and summer. Causa las estaciones del año: otoño, verano, primavera e invierno. 

   It takes 365 days (1 year).Tarda 365 días (1 año). 

                       

THE MOON

The Moon is a satellite. La luna es un satélite.

Satellites orbit around planets. Los satélites giran alrededor de los planetas.

The Moon orbits around the Earth. La luna gira alrededor de la Tierra.

The Moon doesn´t give out light and heat. It reflects light from the Sun. La Luna no da luz ni calor. Refleja la luz del Sol.

The Moon takes 28 days to go around the Earth. La Luna tarda 28 días en dar la vuelta a la tierra.
